Avigilon Installation — Darwin & the Northern Territory

Avigilon is the rare enterprise security brand with British Columbian roots: founded in Vancouver, built into a global video-analytics company, and now part of Motorola Solutions. For Victoria stratas, campuses and businesses, that history is more than trivia — it is an enterprise platform originally engineered by people who understood West Coast buildings and West Coast weather. We install and service Avigilon systems across Greater Victoria, from parkade retrofits downtown to multi-building commercial sites, wherever serious video and searchable footage justify a serious platform.

Why We Install Avigilon

A BC success story that earned its place

We do not install Avigilon because it started down the road in Vancouver — we install it because it grew from that start into one of North America's most respected enterprise video platforms. But the local lineage matters to a lot of our clients, and it is satisfying to put a British Columbian-born system to work on Vancouver Island.

Analytics that reduce the haystack

Avigilon built its reputation on video analytics — helping operators find the moment that matters instead of scrubbing hours of footage. For a strata council reviewing a parkade incident or a retailer chasing a specific person through a day of recordings, that search capability changes video from an archive into a tool.

One vendor, camera to console

Cameras, recorders and management software designed together means fewer integration seams for us to babysit and fewer fingers to point when something needs support. Backed by Motorola Solutions, the platform has the corporate depth behind it that enterprise clients rightly ask about before committing to a decade of use.

Deploying Avigilon in Territory Conditions

Good equipment still fails when it's installed like this is Melbourne. How we put Avigilon systems in up here:

Parkades and strata common areas

Much of our Avigilon work in Victoria is underground: parkades with hard shadows, headlight glare and concrete that fights wireless anything. We run cabling through existing conduit paths where we can, place cameras to cover ramps, pedestrian doors and storage corridors, and set the system up so a strata council can pull an incident clip without a service call.

Analytics tuned for a wet coast

Rain, fog and wind-thrown branches will trigger a lazily configured analytic all winter. We tune Avigilon's detection to Victoria conditions — masking wind-moved vegetation, setting rules that ignore weather and flag people — so alerts stay meaningful in February, not just at the summer demo.

Exterior discipline on harbour-facing sites

On commercial frontages near the Inner Harbour and Rock Bay, salt-laden air and horizontal winter rain are the enemies. Every exterior penetration gets sealed, every cable gets a drip loop, and mounts go where the building shelters the lens — our standard coastal practice, applied to an enterprise-grade platform that deserves to reach old age.

Where Avigilon Fits Best

Stratas with shared liability

Parkades, lobbies, bike rooms and parcel areas are where strata incidents happen and where councils need footage that settles disputes. Avigilon's searchable video suits buildings where nobody is paid to watch screens — the system does the finding when something needs finding.

Multi-building commercial and campus sites

Business parks, institutional campuses and operations spread across more than one Victoria address benefit from Avigilon's single management view: every camera on every building in one place, with one set of user permissions and one upgrade path.

Retail with real shrinkage problems

For downtown and village retailers past the point where a basic kit helps, Avigilon brings evidence-quality footage and fast search across long retention windows — the difference between knowing stock is walking out and being able to show exactly when and with whom.

Great White Security is product-agnostic — we install and service Avigilon systems where they're the right fit for the site, and recommend alternatives where they're not.

Avigilon Questions

Is Avigilon really a BC company?
It was founded in Vancouver and grew into a global enterprise video company from there. It is now part of Motorola Solutions, so it has international scale behind it — but the platform's roots are genuinely British Columbian, which resonates with a lot of Island clients.
Is Avigilon overkill for a small business?
Sometimes, and we will say so. A three-camera café does not need enterprise analytics. Avigilon earns its cost where footage volume is high, incidents need finding quickly, or multiple buildings need one system — stratas, campuses, larger retail. For smaller sites we will quote something proportionate alongside it.
We are replacing a Hikvision system after the Canadian wind-up — is Avigilon a direct path?
It is one of the mainstream ones. We assess your existing cable plant first — well-installed network cabling usually stays — then replace cameras and recording with Avigilon hardware. For stratas and businesses affected by the 2025 order, we handle the transition as one project: remove, replace, recommission.
Can a strata council operate an Avigilon system without training?
The day-to-day is simpler than the enterprise label suggests. We set up council access for the things councils actually do — review an incident, export a clip, check camera health — and we remain the depth behind it for configuration changes and maintenance.
